would job hop allowance help?

Yes, but also salary minimum at top industry percentile to prevent use for wage suppression domestically.

Several of the links of yours are about PERM applications, not H1B.

I agree abusers (employers) should be put on he H1B visa blacklist which already exists.

H1B already mandates that employees be paid within the wage window of their peers. And anecdotally I know several who make more than their citizen peers in the same company same level

Not fully, the problem is much deeper than compensation. Let's not have large companies game around the slots allotted and using various means to get more slots. And put some serious enforcement on how they justify their H1b's to begin with as a start.

tax more is so solution...

underesourcing segment - why not just segment to stop consuming cheap dophamine and replace a lot of bad food with less of good (nope, new usa pyramid is not so solution).

i would pay people for eating less ut really good and watch less shows and tvs, would be glad to do so.

just give poor people free ai, free internet, free good water; give them chance to find out everything.

The resemblance this has with a drunk text sent at 3am is uncanny, but I don't think we're missing anything constructive.

Wow, look at that. Genuine human slop. What a refreshing change.

This comment holds just as little value as an AI comment, but you've managed to write so poorly that not even the top of the line LLMs could compete. Great work, really.

Will not. You should love to move youself to pay 30% more taxes and work for 30% less salary (not sure what percentage to apply first).

> pay 30% more taxes

This is scaremongering - taxes are in no way 30% higher in EU.

Someone pulling mid-6-figures in the Valley is already paying a ~35% effective tax rate (state + medicare + federal). That same person taking a low-6-figures job in Spain would pay ~40% effective tax rate - and Beckam's Law would likely cut that to 24% for the first 6 years in any case

first, one have to prove he is 24 not 40. taxes can tell 24 and tell you do 40 becauses they decided so.

add social security percentage. while one still need real insurance and pension saving on top. yes, one 6 figure person have to pay two times. once for self and other one unemployed local drunk.

and on top, when one buys anything, all things are taxed 2x compared to usa(but i guess trump tries fo equalize that).

on top. there are prices for locals and foreigners. one will pay 2x for coffee, rent, parking, all.

and yeah, one is foreigner? does not know hidden language of locals? wait in all queues 2x longer. so social security medcine is something one never sees.

> there are prices for locals and foreigners. one will pay 2x for coffee, rent, parking, all... does not know hidden language of locals? wait in all queues 2x longer. so social security medcine is something one never sees.

Mate, I made this exact move ~5 years ago, it's really not that hard to learn a foreign language and navigate a bit of bureaucracy (although I will admit, Spain may be better than most in this regard)

more like 50+ % less salary, just saying

i was using wsl2. and got weird slowness and high cpu. appeared it was their built in antivirus(av). i disabled av, but it autoenabled later and did same. it is possible to secure windows other way without active protection btw.

i used git on wsl2. it got weird issues with git connectivity over wifi. github ticket not solved. one of most popular and essential dev tools is not stably working in wsl2.

many rust crates supported only mac, bsd and linux. nobody cared windows.

so even without ux of recent version, i had to leave.

for my wife is still run windows.

but. she had fully official surface laptop with official office. not 3rd party or pirated things.

and... office became very very slow just typing... it was 3 years ago.

i have run script disabling all things. it good for 3rd year now.

but how they managed to make their laptop new one, with all their things so bad?

not all people can access usukeu based payment systems, so no.

greg just proposed sanctions, more sanction. without disriminating that for some kids 1 is too much or impossible.

greg why do you want more suffering to people?

sydbox is intresting alternative (written in rust by linux developer)

UPDATE: there is other sydbox written in go, not related and seems different too far from bwrap

can we align that code, algorithm, code to be forms and important forms of political action?

> We are long past the limits of what you can fix with code.

example of what is not possible to fix with code?

Hardware? The real world? Pretty much everything?

Power. Real power. The power to kill you, take your property, harm your family, tell lies about you on the news, etc.

I've always been surprised by the naivety of tech people with respect to this question. The only possible solution to power is power itself. Software can be a small part of that, but the main part of it is human organization: credible power to be used against other organized holders of power. No amount of technology will let you go it alone safely. At best, you may hope to hide away from power with the expectation that its abuse will just skip over you. That is the best you could hope for if all you want are software solutions.

seems we little bit narrowed general statement into good direction for discussion. so example seems need to be more concrete.

some exact piece of hardware or some exact activity of power?

think of it as tdd. we check few simple exact cases before generalising.

The threat of the state tossing you in jail until you divulge your password/permit backdooring/etc.

You can design in ways such that there isn't a password to give up in the first place. Maybe the key is distributed and you need all x number of people to decrypt. Sure, maybe the state can capture everyone but it becomes significantly harder than targeting a single person and threatening them with torture.

Combine that with rate limiting and a dead man's switch.

Hard power still matters. It gets access to things like fiber closets, upstream dependencies, subtle flaws in encryption schemes that take years to figure out, information linking your networks, and more than I can think of.

Cute tech can slow them down until they go through the effort of controlling most of TOR's exit nodes and point the Eye of Sauron at you.

slows down = raises costs.

allows small person to be more free by giving assymetric power to heshe.

Picture wrench attacks. What use is your Monero's security, for example, as I turn a screw into you until you give it up?

Shamir's secret sharing. In that scenario, capturing me alone isn't going to get you anything even if I divulge my piece of the secret. You'd still need to find out who has the other pieces, find them, and convince them to divulge as well.

Maybe there's 3 of us, and the 4th part of the password/secret/private key is on a server of mine somewhere. If I don't check in for x duration, it wipes itself.

Yeah it means my Monero is gone now, but at least my attacker didn't get it.

radicle does some project mgmt inside dotgit directory. there are other projects doing similar.

jj simplifies git.

real alternative to fossil.

is future possible cure for humans worth one shark eye?

how many fish, water mammals and may be humans shark killed for hundred years? did shark thought about their eyes?*

*except in sence that eyeballs are very delicios

Greenland sharks don't kill humans, they're not more "responsible" for what white sharks do than you as a mammal are responsible for tigers killing their prey.
