P/E is based on profit, aren't you conflating earnings and revenue? As their earnings are negative, so would be their P/E ratio.


It’s kind of hard to really calculate the P/E for OpenAI as there are more factors in it than usual. Companies like Microsoft and Nvidia likely don’t care too much about their returns considering huge parts of their investments go directly back into their own companies through sales. It’s fairly easy to invest 10B into a company which will then spend almost all of that money on your Azure services. Meanwhile giving your own co-pilot AI products able competition to avoid antitrust lawsuits.


It's not hard to calculate P/E.

You divide the price by earnings.

OpenAI has negative earnings.

It doesn't have a P/E.


Fair enough. I should have worded myself better to get what I meant across, which I totally didn’t because you’re right. What I meant to say was that their current investors won’t care about the p/e.

And how do you know that?


Article says:

It’s more than $5bln. That’s their adjusted loss which excludes stock based comp. Real loss is probably 8-10


Likely because the hash of an IP can easily be reversed as there are only ~2^32 IPv4 addresses.


It is not just that. Having user IP and such a hashing approach you can re-identify past sessions.


What if my hashing function has high likelihood of collisions?


Then you cannot trust the analytics


You can estimate the actual numbers based on the collision rate.

Analytics is not about absolute accuracy, it's about measuring differences; things like which pages are most popular, did traffic grow when you ran a PR campaign etc.


Do you trust analytics that doesn’t use JS? Or relies on mobile users to scroll the page before counting a hit?

It’s all a heuristic and even with high collision hashing, analytics would provide some additional insight.


Practically all GUI software would look too complicated if you have to put everything on one screen. Compare tar and your favorite archive tool GUI.
