I'm using Linux Mint at the moment. I chose it after upgrading Ubuntu to 12.04 when things became unstable. Linux Mint is pretty good so far. It's stable, and uses a mix of Gnome 3 and MATE for the desktop environment.

I'm also using Mint but LMDE, the debian version with XFCE as a desktop. Cinnamon looks alright but XFCE is nice on Mint.

PHP.

4 (5 including the favicon) isn't that bad, especially if it's done in parallel.

No. Try using downforeveryoneorjustme.com next time.

Then nit must be my ISP, because for other people around my city who has the same provider Facebook looks down. I am not asking this kind of question easily.

The obvious answer to why is, no one's built it yet. Forrst supposed fill the showing off things in pictures void (plus it's exclusive, just like Facebook used to be). Github comes pretty close, you can even have a personal page (though updating has be done via pushes).

A feature I'd like to see in such a site is a repository/tool for defining syntax rules & colorschemes for editors.

If you're a WordPress developer, shouldn't you already know some PHP?

Since the backend for WordPress runs on PHP, it would make sense to learn at least a little about the language.

I'm also of the opinion that you should learn as much as you can, especially if you're curious.

I know enough to output dynamic content. I'd probably say that's the current extent of my PHP skills but that seems like a fairly limited scope.

Learning as much as I can sounds good to me! It's just a concern that I keep seeing PHP getting bad press.

It all depends on the types of web apps you want to build. How about watching some videos to get a feel of the different solid frameworks and pick the closest to your needs?

Thanks that's a good idea, I'll be sure to do that.
