"The new hotness" is not a problem. It is a problem when developers insist on using "the new hotness" regardless of whether it adds value. There are many thousands of applications using React without hooks that are working just fine and will continue to do so indefinitely.
The author's criticisms do not seem to be insightful. They boil down to "bah humbug stop changing things". Did you get something more useful out of it?
This is a long-winded rant that seems to boil down to advocating for avoiding frameworks altogether. Not worth the watch.
TLDW: “the whole point behind this video, guys, is maybe we should ditch React because all of these changes are because of short-sighted architecture, and maybe we all shouldn’t just be these herd animals that are constantly taking and following the herd from one section of the field to the other you know we keep going around in circles and getting nowhere.”
Sounds like he's never had to develop a complex stateful application. In the comments he suggests we can get away with just using "raw js and a decent MVC framework", which becomes unmaintainable very quickly.
There is no such thing that raw/vanilla js is unmaintable, what is unmaintainable is stuff that breaks regulary and vanilla/raw js never(almost?) breaks.
Er, what? The language is not what is breaking here, your application is. If you try to build a complex stateful application with no frameworks, you will more than likely create an unmaintainable buggy mess. You won't be able to reliably add new features without breaking something else.
Googling this man's name (Brian Leung Kai-ping) reveals a number of articles suggesting that he fled to the United States immediately after this event. However, I can't tell whether any of the web sites reporting this news are trustworthy. When I first read these reports I immediately dismissed him and his comments to the LA Times but now I wonder if the story of his flight is propaganda intended to negate his courage.
Also in their article, there are clearly many others in the photographs without masks. So I think his impromptu speech is more important than taking off his mask, but lots of articles cite removal of his mask..
Since this organization has no leader, it would benefit the opposition to paint a leader out of thin air and show faults in him.
The Dexcom G6 system does not require any calibration, insertion is remarkably pain-free, and it lasts for 10 days. I've had it for a few months (after a couple of years of using the G5 system) and I can't imagine living without it.
"I want to affirm to anyone on our team that is scared or feels personally exposed, that I and everyone else here at Grubhub will fight for your dignity and your right to make a better life for yourself and your family here in the United States. That's not an statement against supporting Donald Trump, that's a demand for the protection of human dignity and opportunity. Perhaps the author assumes that there are no Trump supporters who support dignity and opportunity for all, an absolutely false generalization.
Respectfully, I think you are being intellectually dishonest:

I'm still trying to reconcile my own worldview with the overwhelming message that was delivered last night. Clearly there are a lot of people angry and scared as the antithesis of every modern presidential candidate won and will be our next president.
While demeaning, insulting and ridiculing minorities, immigrants and the physically/mentally disabled worked for Mr. Trump, I want to be clear that this behavior - and these views, have no place at Grubhub. Had he worked here, many of his comments would have resulted in his immediate termination.
We have worked for years cultivating a culture of support and inclusiveness. I firmly believe that we must bring together different perspectives to continue innovating - including all genders, races, ethnicities and sexual, cultural or ideological preferences. We are better, faster and stronger together.
Further I absolutely reject the nationalist, anti-immigrant and hateful politics of Donald Trump and will work to shield our community from this movement as best as I can. As we all try to understand what this vote means to us, I want to affirm to anyone on our team that is scared or feels personally exposed, that I and everyone else here at Grubhub will fight for your dignity and your right to make a better life for yourself and your family here in the United States.
If you do not agree with this statement then please reply to this email with your resignation because you have no place here. We do not tolerate hateful attitudes on our team.I want to repeat what Hillary said this morning, that the new administration deserves our open minds and a chance to lead, but never stop believing that the fight for what's right is worth it.
Stay strong,
Matt"
Cherry pick and twist however you want but anyone with common sense who is paying attention knows exactly what this means.
My intention was to succinctly address the post, not to cherry pick. I do not disagree with anything in Matt's email but I do see opportunities for his intention to be misinterpreted. I agree that he could have been more careful.
Frankly, statements like "anyone with common sense who is paying attention knows exactly what this means" are intellectually lazy. Please explain "exactly what this means" because I do not see it.
