So no more MSCI World in Europe?

Individual investors can buy whatever they want. The idea is to be competitive with the US, so that indices like MSCI World are more than just thinly-veiled S&P500 indices.

Box64 also runs on LoongArch

LoongArch has the advantage that they don't need to rely on a committee, they can just do things as they see fit.

The 2023 3A6000 already reached the performance of this RISC-V board

Thing about RISC-V is that there are technically no barriers on doing as you see fit, but there's very clearly defined lines where community support isn't guaranteed, like custom extensions or screwing with already ratified extensions.

We actually don't know a lot about the UR-DP1000 chip, while we do know quite a bit about the 3A6000 because of Chips and Cheese. This makes a thorough analysis of the crimes committed within the core architecture of the UR chip more of speculation than a coherent discussion.

But we do know:

1. The UR-DP1000 does not have any Vector instructions 2. UR only has a 4 way OOO design, while the 3A6k is 6 way OOO 3. The cache architecture of the UR is more complicated, with 4 cores sharing 4MB L3 per cluster (2 clusters total), and a 16MB global L4 where the 3A6k doesn't have this 4. The UR chip doesn't have SMT

> Japan’s minimum wage ($6.68 an hour) is similar to America’s ($7.25).

1. American state minimum wage supersedes the national minimum wage [0]

2. The median household income in Japan is significantly below the US ($25,000 [1] versus $83k [2]), let alone other OECD members.

>to America’s ($7.25).

That's the federal minimum wage. The actual minimum wage, factoring in state and local rates is actually around $12, 65% higher.

But does anyone actually make minimum wage in the US? Statistics i can find suggest it is around 1% with Japan closer to 20%.

Most (30) states have their own minimum wage, higher than the federal. 20 have no minimum wage or a minimum lower than or equal to the federal.

Besides what all these other commenters are saying, probably many of the people running these small lunch shops in Japan are the owners, not waged employees. On top of that, that business probably isn’t viable for 8 hours per day.

Minimum wage doesn’t tell you as much as you’d think. McDonald’s in my lowish cost of living area starts at $14 an hour.

The US federal minimum wage hasn’t increased in nearly 20 years. Japan raises it regularly.

$13-15/hour is the minimum even in Mississippi, which are the rates McDonald’s advertises for crew there.

Now try actually hiring anyone at $7.25 an hour.

Not to mention most states have their own minimum wage at over $10.

eBooks are much more expensive then an Audible subscription though.

I wouldn't say so. Audible gives you 1 book a month for $15. Most e-books I see are around $10.

> This is been interpreted by enthusiasts that the Egyptians knew about pi.

Well if you want to calculate the circumference of earth and know the distance between Alexandria and Syene, where the sun casts no shadow at noon during the summer solstice, you also need to know pi.

No need for pi.

If you know the angle and the distance between the two cities, you can just multiply the distance by [full circle divided by the angle], and that's the circumference.

Even if that were true, it wouldn't disprove the link to racism: Eratosthenes was Hellene, not native Egyptian. He "counts as white"; ancient Egyptians may or may not.

For older machines I'd recommend Mate. It's a fork of old Gnome 2, so it got a lot more polish back on the day, even though some of it bit rotted away.

It's still a very nice desktop and you can combine it with Compiz if you want to have some fun.

It's a standard drip coffee machine, can't expect anything extraordinary there.

> Oh and one major problem the C15 does have is that despite those stats, it is considered to NOT meet emission standards (due to age), and so you cannot enter many cities in one.

At least in Germany, due to it's age it would classify as a historic vehicle (number plate with an H) and be exempt from emission standards.

If you have an electric vehicle you need none of that

And if people would make one that wasn't an iPad on wheels I'd be in line to buy.

This is my exact same sentiment. I’m cautiously excited about the upcoming Slate Pickup[1] - I can see it being my go-to if I leave NYC, but it still won’t hit like the XJ Cherokee I drove before I gave up cars for the city.

Looks interesting, I wonder to what extent they really want to make cars DIY-able again (as they state). On the one hand, they mention servicing is "easy" — just turn to their partner repair shop chain! On the other hand, there's Slate University and mention of repairability. I haven't followed development of this at all, so I'm genuinely curious. Hope it's not just "you can swap in and out our proprietary modules".

I really want to like the slate but their speakers and tablet holder concept actually are awful. Just a super basic off the shelf din rail hole and aux in and slap the most basic touch screen with physical control stereo you can find in there that does air play and car play works for me.

also stereo speakers in the glove box is...what

Who cares. Literally every discussion of vehicles someone has to bring up infotainment systems. You know that getting your dopamine drip is not what a vehicle is for, right?

If I have to drive 2 hours or more every day or 12+ hours for work a few times a month (not in a long time anymore for either), it better be fucking enjoyable.

I like the idea of a slate but the truck bed just makes no sense at that size. I don’t understand why it’s not defaulted to another row of seats or hatchback, with the option to convert to truck. 5 ft bed without extension is kind of pointless as a bed, but huge as a trunk.

That's effectively what it is, but reverse. You buy it as a truck, and can buy seats & cap and turn it into an SUV. I see it as the closest thing you can get to a kei truck in the US without importing. Relatively cheap, good payload capacity, (better than a lot of trucks out there) effectively unable to tow, 5-foot bed, which is the same or larger than most mid-size trucks, and a tiny form factor.

It's certainly a niche vehicle, but it looks exciting if it can fill you niche.

I worry about the Slate truck being DOA with expiration of incentives for EVs. Someone please tell me I'm wrong, because if they do deliver as promised, I'll be excited to buy one.

For me, I'm hoping it fills the mid-90s Isuzu Pup sized hole in my heart.

For the price of that C15 (adjusted for inflation it seems) you may be able to buy a battery for an EV. Maybe.
