So funny to think about this now.

Our email systems are mostly mediated by giant hyper-scale companies (Microsoft, Google etc). The location of mail servers being where the recipient is seems quaint (and wonderfully decentralised).

And even if we do manage our own servers they are automated, and apps often containerised. Nobody ends up with older MTA due to an OS upgrade.

Remember reading this like 20 years ago nice to see it again.

Thing is there is no reason Microsoft’s Linux distro wouldn’t be just as horrible to use “out of the box”.

Just like with browser rendering engines it’s much better if there is variety out there in the ecosystem.

That’s not to say you’re wrong.

I wonder if the eradication of the heroin supply from Afghanistan following the Taliban takeover has had an effect?

Possibly re-directed some of the fentanyl to other markets where addicts could no longer get heroin? Thus reducing supply elsewhere?

At least in Europe the heroin gap was mostly filled with crack from Latin America.

iPhones regularly do these queries before / in addition to to A/AAAA. They’re used for more than ECH.

Agreed the author here just dumps data but nothing that seems to be designed to disrupt comms in Venezuela is really mentioned.

Joseph Fourier enters the chat…

You need to take care of them though. Scratched CDs don’t play good.

Love me some old school goat ball

For me there is no point storing digital music on optical discs. Easier to steam it or listen from a hard drive.

On the other hand the larger format of vinyl and rather peculiar way it works scratches the “tactile” part of what makes physical attractive a lot more.

Each to their own of course but that’s me.

The discs are your backups.

(You can of course also back up the rips, but you have the disc as origin, and as an option for re-ripping at higher or lower quality, etc.)
