I honestly don't know a single person or a business who shuts down computers for 16 hours/day consistently.

Not a single one.

Power consumption should be measured as 8-10 hours at 50% load, and 14-16 hours at idle.

That easily doubles your estimates, I think. Not to mention the places where power is more expensive than $0.12/KWh



Call it $100 a year then. That's not very much if you're already buying a machine to tinker around with.
