TELO is a tiny electric truck the size of a Mini with a bed as big as a Hummer’s (electrek.co)

What is the advantage of a open bed? In Europe the role of a small commercial vehicle like this would be taken by something like a Mercedes Vito or a Ford transit connect. I really can't think of a reason why you would choose a TELO over a Nissan NV200.

If you haul dirty stuff, it’s much easier to hose out a pickup than a cargo van or suv.

For a half way point between tent camping and pulling a camper/caravan, slide in campers work with pickups but not cargo vans. If using a cargo van for camping, you probably want something that allows you to stand. That calls for a high top or a conversion that adds a pop top.

Yes, in the UK pickups now seem to be status items. I don't think I've ever seen an open bed used. I've seen a few towing big trailers, that's about it.

I have an open bed truck. It's cheaper, maybe 10 to 20%? That's probably about it

I’m hopeful that smaller vehicles like those supposedly coming from Telo and Canoo can change the market. The Ford Maverick has shown that a modern pickup can be smaller and fuel efficient. Telo looks interested in upping the ante.

This is tangential, but the Ford Maverick has also shown that automotive OEMs are not ready to contain battery fires. Not hard to one-up a truck that might experience thermal runaway.

I just hope they can sustainable enter the market and don't end up like the Elio

This sounds impressive until you realize that the Hummer actually has a pretty short bed, at 5 feet long.

they were initially going to advertise the size in football fields but that number sounded even worse

Should have gone for washing machines. That would be more relevant and likely a use case for this type of vehicle.

Similarly, measure a cargo bicycle's capacity in units of cases of beer.

For some reference: Modern cargo bikes are anywhere from 1 to 6 crates of beer. The old timey ones could probably carry somewhere around 50.

This should become law.

It sounds impressive until you realise they're talking about the new mini, not the original

The hummer comparison is bad. More relevant, the bed is the same length as that of a short bed Tacoma.

Ugh still 50k for a car. Why can we have a basic car like this for like 10-20k?

I wouldn't be surprised if the batteries alone were 10-15k

They exist, just not in the States now. See the BYD Seagull.
