Nomad is a dead product. I think Terraform has hope though

Why do you say that? I've been considering Nomad recently and I didn't perceive it as dead at all. Their community seems pretty vibrant too.

TBH I don't know anything about Nomand. Feel free to use it. That might be good for you, I certainly don't want to deter you. All I meant was that I didn't think Nomad would survive in the Long Term a change of license from MIT to BSL, when there also exists Kubernetes.

On the contrary, I think Terraform will survive in form or another. Either the BSL license will be lenient enough or people will fork Terraform and support it.

Your statement was "Nomad is a dead product" without knowing anything about the product. That's something to consider next time you make such statements.

I think I know enough to make the statement, actually. I don't know enough to tell some random person not use it. Think about that. I at least uphold the integrity to be honest with you!

I appreciate your honesty, but blanket statements are usually backed up with an actual reason, which you failed to provide initially. Hence my reaction.

That said, I guess time will tell. I doubt the license make such a big difference. Hashicorp cannot be that stupid (to offend the open source community). Also, a product is not necessarily "dead" even it's mostly used by corporates.

I could probably provide 10 reasons. I listed two: because there exists Kubernetes, and now because Nomad is under BSL.

Also, let's keep in context that HCP has an Accumulated Deficit of .8 Billion dollars, and it loses 50 million a Quarter, they're nowhere near becoming profitable, and changes like this, switching from MPL to BSL is just the beginning.

They now have a shit ton of code across all their projects, and they're never going to be able to maintain it all, given their need to make profit.

I'm not going to write a story for you explaining everything in detail, sir.

It's just some forum where I can freely voice my opinion. It doesn't need to be backed by a book of reasons, nor does my loose opinion in such a context undermine my integrity in the slightest.

Cheers

Nomad is far from dead. It’s a good option when you want resource scheduling and can’t use containers.
