> “We are sparing no effort to protect our children,” Breton said.

I know it's just a figure of speech, but it drives me crazy when people say stuff like this. Same thing during Covid when people would say things like "if it saves just one life, then it's worth it."

His statement is so clearly not (literally) true, otherwise they would be surveilling every adult 24/7 to ensure they aren't doing anything that might "harm" a child. Probably safer to just jail everybody and only let people out under close supervision. Or keep all the children in a centralized government camp where they can be watched and surveilled all the time "for their own protection."

To be clear I'm not suggesting that is Breton's position. I'm merely trying to demonstrate how he clearly is sparing some efforts. So there is a line there of cost/benefit analysis even though he is claiming otherwise. I'm not trying to be ridiculous, but with hugely impactful things like this, I really appreciate precision and clarity of language.

The discussion is both the analysis itself and who gets to manage that analytic process.

The "sparing no effort/saving just one life" folks seem comfortable handling all of that icky management themselves, rather than letting those unreliable individuals do their own thinking.

For anyone interested why decentralization is important for social platforms, this is why. I wrote a few articles over the years that you might find interesting:

So does this mean to be "on-line" you must use Windows or Apple MACs or your Cell Phone ?

What if you are a say NetBSD or DragonflyBSD user, you are SOL ?

Granted I do not use Facebook or anything Meta, but we all know if this is made law it will be expanded.

You're already excluded from banking in EU if you don't use Google or Apple online mobile services, this at least includes desktops and isn't nearly as essential.
